Course Description
This non-accredited silica awareness course is designed for workers, supervisors and others who may be exposed to respirable crystalline silica (RCS), or who oversee activities that could generate or disturb silica dust. This includes work involving materials such as concrete, bricks, tiles, mortar, stone, sand and other silica-containing products.
The course is relevant to a wide range of industries and work environments, including construction, manufacturing, mining and resources, maintenance, transport operations and dental laboratories.
Participants will learn where crystalline silica may be found, the ways direct and secondary exposure can occur, and how risks can be effectively controlled. The course helps workplaces provide information and training about silica hazards and safe work practices, while giving participants the knowledge to recognise risks, make safer decisions and contribute to a prevention-focused safety culture.
This awareness course does not replace any task-specific training, instruction, supervision or competency requirements that may apply to particular work activities.
This course is expected to take approximately 1 - 1.5 hours to complete. This timeframe is an estimate only. Individuals with prior experience in similar training may complete the online component in less time, while those new to the subject may need more time to complete all the learning content and theory questions.
