Course Description
This non-accredited Asbestos and Silica Awareness Course Set is designed for workers, supervisors and others who may encounter asbestos-containing materials (ACM) or be exposed to respirable crystalline silica (RCS) during their work. It is relevant across construction, demolition, renovation, maintenance, manufacturing, resources, transport, cleaning, installation and other environments where asbestos or silica-containing materials may be present or disturbed.
The course set covers where asbestos and crystalline silica may be found, how direct and secondary exposure can occur, associated health risks, relevant workplace information and procedures, and how exposure can be prevented. Participants learn to recognise potential hazards, apply appropriate silica dust controls, and respond safely when asbestos is suspected by stopping work, avoiding further disturbance and reporting the concern.
This course set may support workplace asbestos and silica information, instruction and training arrangements. It is non-accredited and does not authorise participants to handle, disturb, sample, clean up or remove asbestos or suspected ACM, undertake licensed asbestos work, or perform silica-related work without the controls, training and authorisation required for the task.
This course is expected to take approximately 2 hours to complete. This timeframe is an estimate only. Individuals with prior experience in similar training may complete the online component in less time, while those new to the subject may need more time to complete all the learning content and theory questions.
